About Dropback

Dropback brings the tools trusted by NFL & NBA front offices, to the world of college sports, at a fraction of the cost. Our vertically-integrated SaaS is trusted by top programs (like Northwestern) and top GMs (like Adrian Wojnarowski, GM at St. Bonaventure).

Dropback helps teams build competitive rosters in the new 'Revenue Sharing Era' of college sports. Dropback’s customizable platform helps programs value athletes, optimize spend, and maximize their new off-the-field competitive edge: athlete payroll. Starting with roster management and player valuation, Dropback is building toward “the Rippling for sports:” an all-in-one platform for headcount management, contracts, payouts, and more.

Featured in Sports Illustrated, SBJ, and Washington Post, Dropback (W24) was one of YC's first collegiate sportstech investments

About the role

About Dropback

Dropback is a “front office” technology suite for elite college college sports programs. Top programs (like Northwestern) and top GMs (like Adrian “Woj” Wojnarowski) use Dropback’s financial technology to construct data-driven roster strategies and automate busy work by managing budgets, contracts, and payroll in one place. Featured in SBJ & Sports Illustrated, Dropback is a Y Combinator graduate (W24). Co-founders Luke & Nick are former Hudl & Microsoft engineers.

Dropback is powering the new future of college sports. To fuel our growth, our technical founder team is looking for our first IC engineer hire.

Our tech is used by top collegiate sports teams to construct rosters, integrate scouting data, manage contracts, and pay players. We’re hiring an elite full-stack software engineer to help us help teams win. Ready to build software that your favorite team uses every day?

About you:

  • You love college sports (We’re huge Nebraska football fans — what’s your team?)
  • You’ve been a founder, have worked at a very small startup, or dream about founding your own company one day
  • 3+ years of full-time, full-stack experience building and deploying production-ready React web apps from scratch.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication (especially async).
  • Bias to action—taking ownership of projects from concept to production, while balancing high quality with speed, in a fast-changing industry.
  • Willing to travel (at least) quarterly for onsites, conferences, and occasional college sports games 🎉
    • Dropback is fully remote, so frequent visits keep us connected!
  • Deep experience with most of our tech stack:
    • Monorepo (Turbo)
    • Next.js (Typescript, Sass) deployed on Vercel
    • PostgreSQL on Supabase
    • Trigger.dev for background job scheduling
    • Tinybird (wrapper of Clickhouse)
    • Modern services: PostHog, Clerk, Loops, Documenso

Why join Dropback?

  • We’re Y Combinator backed, generating revenue from big brands, and growing fast
  • This isn’t boring B2B SaaS! We’re building something fun and transformational in sports
  • A fully-remote company, built by technical founders whose entire careers have been remote
  • We’ll give you generous equity. We’re huge proponents of aligning incentives
  • Meet head coaches, visit campuses, go to college sports conferences, tailgates, games…
