About SiPhox Health

Wearable and At-Home protein monitoring with silicon photonic chips

About the role

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on and motivated Biomedical Photonics Technician to join our Biomedical Integration Team. This role is ideal for a technician with relevant experience, or a recent graduate of a Photonics Certificate Program who is eager to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting. You will be working at the forefront of diagnostic innovation, helping to develop, run, and maintain silicon photonics-based diagnostic cartridges for use with clinical samples and multi-reader diagnostic rigs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, calibrate, and maintain silicon photonics diagnostic cartridges for biomedical applications.
  • Operate and troubleshoot multi-reader rigs for clinical testing and data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and bioengineering groups to integrate photonic components into functional diagnostic systems.
  • Handle clinical samples with care, following biosafety and data integrity protocols.
  • Conduct performance testing and quality control checks on optical cartridges and related instrumentation.
  • Support data analysis efforts by providing accurate experimental data and maintaining clear documentation.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and iterative design improvements to optimize cartridge and system performance.
  • Assist in the transition of prototypes to pilot-scale manufacturing and validation.

Qualifications

  • Photonics Certificate or equivalent training in photonics, optics, or biomedical instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with silicon photonics, optical alignment, fiber optics, and photonic sensor principles.
  • Comfortable working in laboratory environments involving biological samples and clinical workflows.
  • Experience using lab tools such as optical benches, microscopes, and diagnostic instrumentation.
  • Basic programming or scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW) is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and safety practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a startup-like, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Prior hands-on experience with silicon photonics platforms or biomedical diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with multi-channel data collection systems or lab automation.
  • Experience in cleanroom environments or cartridge prototyping.

Why Join Us

  • Work at the intersection of photonics and healthcare, advancing technologies that improve lives.
  • Be part of a collaborative team pushing the boundaries of diagnostics innovation.
  • Gain exposure to full system development—from concept to clinical deployment.
  • Opportunity for growth and continued learning in a cutting-edge field.
Technology

We are developing a new paradigm for consumer health tech wearables by replacing a 100lb optical instrument with an area of silicon smaller than a postage stamp.
