As a Design Engineer, you'll bridge the gap between engineering and design—owning the craft of building elegant, high-performance UI and design systems that scale. You'll work across our TypeScript/React frontend and collaborate closely with product and backend engineers to shape the future of how AI teams build products.
We’re a small, smart, and hardworking team operating at the frontier of AI. Our customers demand world-class performance, reliability, and usability, and we aim to set the standard for intuitive design that enables product leaders and non-technical subject matter experts to collaborate effectively with developers.
You’ll be responsible for:
We aim for a modern, pragmatic stack that optimizes for speed and developer happiness:
This role is primarily for San Francisco.
If London is a more suitable location for you that can be arranged. We work in our HQ in SoMa, with flexibility as needed.
We run a high-scale data service processing millions of AI generations daily, built with FastAPI (Python) on the backend and a data-intensive, visualization-heavy UI using TypeScript and React.
Our customers—AI teams at leading companies—expect top-tier performance, reliability, and intuitiveness. We aim to set the standard for design that enables product leaders and non-technical subject matter experts to seamlessly collaborate with developers on building AI.
Phone screen (20 mins)
Informal call for you to know more about you, with some light technical discussion about your past projects, interest and experience with AI. We share what we’re looking for and the covers the logistics of the interview process.
Code screen (45 mins)
Screen sharing with one of our engineers, we’ll task you with a short technical challenge along the lines of “write a function to do [this relatively simple task]”. Our code is in Typescript and Python but you can use whatever language you wish (though no AI for this one!). We’re looking for speed, communication, and understanding.
Product code screen (60 mins)
Pairing with a product engineer in the team, this is more of a real world challenge which gets to show your strengths as well as you product sense. We’ll build something together, and you can use AI or whatever tools you wish to get there quickly. We’re looking to explore general practical skills and also see evidence of taste and user empathy in what you build. Should be fun!
On-site interview loop (4 hours)
Meet the team, and do a series of job-specific interviews and brainstorm sessions together that we’ll explain ahead of time.
The whole process can be as quick as week, or can work around your schedule as needed.
