Wearable and At-Home protein monitoring with silicon photonic chips

About the role
Skills: Chemistry, Biochemistry

About SiPhox:

SiPhox, a Khosla Ventures, Intel Capital, and Y Combinator-backed startup, is commercializing next-generation diagnostics using Silicon Photonics, a platform technology for optics miniaturization that has revolutionized the data center industry over the last two decades. SiPhox's technology provides the power of large laboratory instruments in a handheld device that accepts disposable silicon photonic chip sensors.

SiPhox is in the middle of an ambitious effort to develop and commercialize a large menu of immunoassay and chemistry targets on its multiplexed clinical-grade, validated, at-home diagnostics platform.

Role Overview:

This is an opportunity to join a high-growth startup at a major inflection point: We have a validated functional first-generation platform that is ready for commercialization and scale-up, as well as next-generation development.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with R&D teams in developing and commercializing the SiPhox Home hardware, cartridges, and associated assays.
  • Accountable for the proper maintenance and operation of in-house clinical analyzers and biobank
  • Take the lead on ensuring SiPhox's products are robust to real world blood testing challenges including interferences, sample collection and storage issues, etc.
  • Hire and manage additional members of the clinical chemistry team

Please note: this is a fully in-person role that requires overtime hours.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Masters Degree in relevant field required; Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering is a competitive advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in clinical chemistry and experience with immunoassays in a CLIA lab environment
  • Successful assay development and commercialization in serum/plasma and ideally whole blood samples
  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of clinical chemistry and related assay development and validation for immunoassays and chemistry assays
  • Experience in developing industry-leading products, and will develop and sustain a culture of passion, hard work, and innovation
  • Must be capable and excited to personally solve technical problems hands-on

Personal Characteristics:

  • Leads by example—drives team enthusiasm—inspires & energizes
  • Not afraid to do hands-on work in the lab
  • Sets and achieves tough stretch goals; delivers outstanding, measurable results
  • Absolute personal integrity and credibility; humble but delivers outsized results
  • Passion for excellence in people, processes, and products
  • Risk-taker who challenges conventional solutions
  • Creative, thinks out of the box; thinks strategically

Compensation and Opportunity

  • Compensation is competitive including comprehensive benefits, PTO, Lifetime Gym Membership (luxury gym 1 block from the office), and significant stock options
Technology

We are developing a new paradigm for consumer health tech wearables by replacing a 100lb optical instrument with an area of silicon smaller than a postage stamp.
