About Heimdal

Heimdal builds machines that permanently capture and store atmospheric CO2. Congress has passed legislation (IRA) guaranteeing a price of $180/tCO2 removed via Direct Air Capture until 2032. We are building technology that profitably captures CO2 with this tax credit, right here in the United States.

About the role

ABOUT HEIMDAL: Heimdal builds machines that permanently capture and store atmospheric CO2. By working with federal government and local oil & gas production, Heimdal's technology profitably captures CO2. In 2022, Heimdal built the world's cheapest carbon removal plant in Hawaii and will launch Project Bantam, the largest DAC facility in America, in 2024.

Position Overview: Heimdal has built the largest Direct Air Capture facility in America. This is the beginning of a new industry in America that will grow to rival the oil & gas industry in scale. Keeping operations and production of the largest facility in America at full production is an opportunity to be at the forefront of this new industry bringing jobs and opportunity to the State of Oklahoma and beyond. This facility, while the largest of its kind, is still small for an industrial operation. Over time this facility will become the testbed for exploring new and enhanced techniques for optimizing our carbon capture process.

As Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for troubleshooting a multitude of issues that may arise from a new, “one-of-a-kind" plant, with sometimes no help from 3rd parties. Candidate must grow to “own” this process and learn all the complexities to a level as to maximize operational time and production as well as prevent, assess, and fix issues that will arise. For non-local candidates, travel of 50-75% to facility near Shidler, OK expected, with less travel as issues become less common, upon which role will migrate to becoming an essential technical lead within the larger organization and future, vastly larger-scale plants.

  • You will be the technical go-to for the facility, directing other personnel on how best to operate and maintain production.
  • You will report directly to the CTO, who will provide both technical and operational assistance as needed.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong Electrical and Mechanical background.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and quickly address with solutions to get production back on track.
  • Thinking quickly to prevent minor situations from becoming larger issues that would be costly in terms of time and money.
  • Previous knowledge of specialty equipment and components are vital to keep the plant running. Need to have a curious and figure-it-out mindset.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Comply with all relevant OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Comply with safety protocols, conduct regular safety audits, and investigate any incidents or accidents.
  • Assist site manager in coordination with regulatory agencies to ensure all necessary permits and licenses are up to date.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry standards.
  • Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Work closely with the quality control team to monitor and improve product quality.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare and present reports on operational performance, safety, and other key metrics to senior management.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and executive team.

  • Knowledge and experience with electrical systems: mains, disconnects, breakers, motor wiring, motor overloads, surge suppression.
  • Knowledge and experience with control systems: PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, complex relays, contactors.
  • Knowledge and experience with instrumentation: pressure, temperature, flow, IR, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree with 10 years’ experience.
  • High working knowledge in all the areas in the previous section.
  • Previous field service work.
  • Management experience.

Technology

We use abundant minerals, in a looping process, and existing industrial equipment to capture CO2. Our process starts with carbonation of an abundant sorbent. Over a short period of time, through passive contacting with atmospheric air, the material is carbonated, whereafter the captured CO2 is stripped and captured by heating the material to high temperatures. CO2 off-gas is captured and stored geologically, permanently.
