Checkr is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Core Services & Developer Productivity teams. The Core Services team is responsible for internal services that provide several shared capabilities to other engineering teams. These include async message processing and event streaming with Kafka, our API gateway configuration, the authentication service, and shared logging services. The Developer Productivity team is responsible for multiplying the efforts of other engineering teams by optimizing our build pipeline and deployment process using Gitlab, Artifactory, and other services. As the Engineering Manager of this team, you will be responsible for the technical strategy, project delivery, and professional development of members on the team. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who takes a proactive approach in ramping up across both the people management and product domain and leverages their strong communication skills to build a professional network internally, enabling them to overcome any obstacles the team encounters. 

What you’ll do

  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to drive product, technical, and team improvements
  • Represent the team in planning and product meetings
  • Work with the team to reduce technical debt and sustainably scale our architecture
  • Optimize engineering processes and policies to drive velocity and quality
  • Partner closely with other engineering teams to build new features and enhance existing ones 
  • Mentor and develop the careers of team members varying in seniority and experience
  • Hire and grow the team

What you bring

  • 2+ years as an engineering manager 
  • 7+ years as an engineer
  • Experience with Kafka, Kong, Auth0, and similar services is a plus.
  • Experience working on a platform team, treating other engineering teams as customers is a plus.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong skills in critical thinking, decision making, problem-solving, and attention to detail
  • Experience working on products at scale, and understanding the data, legal, human impact, and technical nuances of supporting highly regulated products
  • Deep understanding of service architecture and system design as well as lean software development principles
  • Ability to make high-level prioritization decisions quickly and thoughtfully
  • Able to develop inclusive teams to foster growth and diversity 
  • Ready to mentor the team to grow by providing stretch assignments and opportunities relevant to their interests
  • Humility, openness to feedback, and eagerness to learn

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. The base salary range for this role is $189,384 to $222,805 in Denver, CO
