About the role

Cambly Senior Product Designer

At Cambly, we’re on a mission to bring high-quality English education to people around the world.  We are looking for a mid-level digital product designer to make that mission a reality. English is a critical tool that allows people to tap into new opportunities at home and abroad. Research by the World Economic Forum shows that job seekers with exceptional English compared to their country’s level earned 30-50% percent higher salaries.[1]

We are looking for a senior-level digital product designer to help develop the Cambly product across all platforms. The senior product designer will collaborate directly with a product manager and engineering manager to develop world-class user experiences and user interfaces. As a cross functional unit, they will work together closely and frequently with engineers, researchers, analysts, and other key stakeholders throughout all phases of the product development cycle. 

What you’ll bring

  • 5-7+ years of experience working on digital products (UI/UX)
  • A portfolio of work that represents strong visual design skills, including typography, use of color, layout, imagery and/or illustration, information hierarchy, and demonstrates high quality UI and UX execution.
  • A track record of strong cross functional relationships, particularly with engineers, engineering managers and product managers
  • Proven history of managing multiple projects at a time 
  • Experience working with and contributing to a design system
  • Strong user-centered design practices
  • The ability to communicate design decisions and rationale to stakeholders both verbally and in writing
  • Experience working in an environment with A/B or multivariate experimentation
  • A proactive, curious, learning mindset
  • Some experience mentoring junior product designers

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Strong proficiency in design software for visualization and prototyping (we use Figma, Adobe CS, and Google workspace among other tools at Cambly). Bonus if you can code too!
  • Collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members (especially researchers, product managers, and engineers) to ensure design solutions align with product requirements, user goals, and business goals
  • Partner directly with product and engineering managers to define the product roadmap and metric goals, design experiments, observe and analyze results, and synthesize learnings. 
  • Translate product requirements into design solutions that are user-friendly and visually appealing
  • Be an advocate for users throughout the product development process
  • Create and implement design solutions for assigned projects, with a focus on usability and user experience
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from users, cross-functional team members, and stakeholders
  • Work closely with engineers to ensure that quality of shipped products matches design intent
  • Use clear and proactive communication to share visibility into their workstream, and actionable next steps in conversations within their team and cross-functional partners
  • Clear documentation that helps explain user flows to cross functional partners and stakeholders
  • Work within a defined design language / design system as well as thoughtfully expand upon it
  • Educate non-designers on design process, practices, and principles

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the expected base salary range for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Compensation Package $160,000 - $190,000 USD Base Salary + Pre-IPO Stock Options
