About Fella Health

Fella Health is the telemedicine clinic for men with obesity, backed by Y Combinator. With Fella, patients meet an obesity specialist to prescribe FDA-approved medications, while they undertake personalized health coaching through our app.

Obesity is the largest chronic disease in the US (>$100bn spent each year) and the traditional solution ("move more, eat less") only works long-term for ~10% of people. But obesity treatment is radically changing due to a new wave of medication options which are 3x more effective than previous options. In addition, only 10% of those using weight management services are men: all programs market to women, not tackling the stigma men feel around this.

Fella's founder is Richie Cartwright (https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-cartwright). Richie personally struggled with binge eating for 6 years. After studying at Cambridge University, he built and sold an AI company working with the UK government. He built a 10k-follower Instagram community around men's binge eating.

About the role

About Fella Health

Fella Health helps middle-aged men live 10 years longer.

We are the telemedicine clinic for bigger guys, worldwide. We use medical weight loss treatment to solve our fellas' most pressing healthcare need, then remain a fella's core healthcare provider for the rest of their life - focused on men's health, longevity, mental health, and primary care.

We will have served 1 million fellas by the end of 2026, and 10 million fellas by the end of 2028.

Our mission is to solve male obesity worldwide, by accelerating the take-up of GLP-1s in middle-aged men. From this, we’ll become the world’s leading men’s health brand.

We’ve grown >150x since Sept 2022, grown >10x since Nov 2023, and are strongly cashflow positive. We have expanded our state coverage to >95% of US population, have started to expand our clinical protocol beyond weight (e.g. testosterone), and are eyeing up international expansion.

We're still a young startup and are moving quickly. We have a long way to go. This is still Day 1.

The opportunity as Registered Dietitian

Fella is building a world-class team.

As a Registered Dietitian at Fella Health you’ll work closely with our Clinical Ops Lead and Medical Team to provide high-quality nutrition advice and support for our Fellas during their weight loss journey. You’ll meet with our Fellas synchronously and create an eating plan tailored to their needs, goals, and dietary preferences—all in a judgment-free zone. You’ll also continuously provide feedback that will help improve our protocols & systems to ensure the best experience for our Fellas.

This is a part-time, fully remote role, and you’ll work in the US timezone of your choice.

You'll work closely with our Clinical Ops Lead (Arvee Sese), Physician President (Rafid Fadul, MD), and our CEO (Richie Cartwright).

Key Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Individual Coaching: You'll be in charge of the nutrition coaching of our fellas. You'll triage fellas based on their health conditions, what type of problems they're facing, & their meal preferences, then develop an eating plan that will supplement their medication usage.

  • CX Concerns: You’ll help fellas with any of their issues with the broader program by endorsing them to the careteam and monitoring their case until it is resolved.

Secondary:

  • RD Protocol Improvement: You'll work with our Clinical Ops Lead to improve the protocol. You'll gather important feedback from your fellas and proactively suggest improvements.

  • Improve our clinical systems : You’ll work closely with our Ops Lead to provide feedback for our systems to improve your workflow.

Need to Have

  • Hours: you're able to work ≥10 hours/week.

  • License: you are licensed in either Michigan or Georgia.

  • Communication: you are a compelling and caring communicator over video & text, with sufficient tech literacy.

  • Empathy: you have a deep understanding of your fellas, knowing how to triage them and how best to keep them engaged.

  • Friend: many fellas have never opened up about this before, so you'll make the fella feel comfortable by being personable. You'll know when and how to joke around with the fella.

  • Resilience: this will be some of the most rewarding work you do, but it won't be easy and there will be resistance. You'll need to stay with each of your fellas.

Nice to Have

  • Experience: you have 1+ years of experience as a registered dietitian working in high-paced, consumer-centric telemedicine.

  • In-network: you are in-network with insurance providers in either Michigan or Georgia.

  • Obesity: ideally you have 1+ years working with patients with obesity taking GLP-1s (and maybe other medications).

  • Hours: you have a flexible schedule, being able to speak with fellas in mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

  • Education: maybe you have an advanced degree which gives you a powerful clinical understanding.

Our cultural standards

These are the core cultural standards to which we hold ourselves & our team-members at Fella:

  • Belief in the mission — we will have served 10 million fellas by the end of 2028 (1 million fellas by end of 2026) and we transform the life of most fellas who join. We have a lot of work to do. We are obsessed with our fellas and are dedicated to the mission.

  • Bulldozing barriers — the world is malleable and we shape it. We truly believe this and act accordingly. We are relentlessly resourceful and are at the mercy of no-one but ourselves.

  • Unwavering integrity — we are at the frontier, so we often live in ambiguity with no trodden path. When we can’t look to others for guidance, we must maintain impeccable ethics and unwavering integrity.

  • Enduring frugality — we are frugal. We hate being wasteful and we are anti-luxury. We spend our cash wisely & carefully - in a way that would make our grandmas proud.

  • Do what is needed — speed is critical and often the solutions we need are messy. We are comfortable moving quickly, taking on gritty work, and owning projects from noticing the problem to delivering the outcome.

  • Distaste for incompetence — we’re highly capable. We have a dedication to excellence and reject incompetence. We’re obsessed with our role, with a commitment to compounding self-improvement.

  • Commitment to candor — we believe in open communication and transparency. We are clear & caring communicators, welcoming feedback.

  • Only the paranoid survive — the road of expansion is bumpy. We are not fair weather sailers; we embrace the storms. However much we’ve already done, however far we’ve already come — all our work is still ahead of us.

  • Keep your head down — we’re boring people doing exciting work. We don’t chase short-term status: we ignore short-term dopamine hits and focus on what matters. Outsiders will underestimate us and we revel in that.

🎯 “You just build an amazing experience. Make each step amazing. Make every decision in the long term interest of the fella. Give the fella massively more value than you take.” — a poetic extract from one of our advisors
