About the role
Skills: Python, SQL

TRM is on a mission to build a safer financial system for billions of people. We deliver a blockchain intelligence data platform to financial institutions, crypto companies, and governments to fight cryptocurrency fraud and financial crime. We consider our business — and our profit — as a way to move towards our mission sustainably and at scale.

As a Data Science Senior Manager at TRM, you'll assume full responsibility for developing custom models, algorithms, and data products integral to enhancing TRM's UX. Working closely with a skilled team of engineers, data scientists, and research scientists, your objective will be to unearth valuable and defensible insights essential for detecting, preventing, and mitigating cryptocurrency fraud and financial crime.

Your team's creations will be tailored to identify novel threat vectors unique to cryptocurrencies and blockchains. These tools will be utilized by prestigious entities such as former FBI, Secret Service, and other law enforcement agencies, empowering them to proactively combat evolving criminal activities in the cryptocurrency space.

The impact you’ll have here:

  • Lead the development of heuristics, machine learning and statistical models tailored to identify patterns and anomalies associated with cryptocurrency fraud and financial crime. These models will help detect potential threats and provide valuable insights for law enforcement agencies.
  • Develop custom models, algorithms, and interactive visualizations that will be consumed by former FBI, Secret Service, and Europol agents and analysts to detect new threat vectors unique to cryptocurrencies and blockchains
  • Collaborate with engineers and research scientists to design algorithms to analyze complex data structures inherent to cryptocurrencies and blockchains. This will involve working with distributed ledger technologies, cryptographic protocols, and transactional data to uncover suspicious activities.
  • As a leader in the team, you will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and research scientists to align on project goals, methodologies, and deliverables. You will communicate your findings and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You will stay up to date with the latest developments in the field of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and financial crime. This will involve continuous learning, attending conferences, and exploring research papers to incorporate cutting-edge techniques into your work.

What we’re looking for:

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in influencing decisions with information.
  • You have strong problem solving/critical thinking.
  • You have 2+ years of experience in a managerial role.
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset - Curious, innovative
  • You have proven experience with at least one programming language (Python preferred) and are comfortable developing code in a team environment (e.g. git, notebooks, testing).
  • You have working knowledge of relational databases, (e.g. SQL).
  • Your academic background is in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or Physics. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Plus/Optional - You have experience collaborating with / working on Data Engineering/ML Ops.
  • You have a high tolerance for ambiguity. You find a way through. You anticipate. You connect and synthesize.
Technology

At TRM, we're on a mission to build trust in digital assets, because the promise of crypto is too valuable to be impeded by bad actors. We provide a blockchain intelligence platform to law enforcement, financial institutions, and crypto firms to assist in the detection and prevention of cryptocurrency fraud and financial crime. Our vision is to build a company that can sustainably deliver on our mission for decades to come, enabling consumers to transact safely and securely on the blockchain.
