About Provision

Provision makes collaborative document management software for the construction industry. Instead of manually reading through thousands of pages of documents and revisions, Provision organizes and extracts information so constructors can save hundreds of hours per bid and make more money.

About the role

We’re hiring for an in-person Product Manager role at Provision. The role of the Product Manager will be to use your direct industry experience in construction law or risk to help Provision iterate on, and improve the product through direct ownership of product KPIs. You will also own the development of various in-production and planned product features. For clarity, this role will not require reviewing and negotiating contracts between counterparties. Instead you will be responsible for building datasets, iterating on and building tools that will help hundreds of contractors protect their interests through a AI-powered contract review platform.

Key skills and experience

  • 5+ years of working full-time as a lawyer (with practice in construction law in Canada or the United States), or as construction risk manager at a general or sub contractor
    • Experience as external council, or within a mediation or arbitration role is acceptable as well
  • Experience with in-depth review and negotiation of major and non-major projects contracts
  • Familiarity with the current state of construction related case law in Canada or in the United States
  • No direct experience with product management is necessary

Desirable Attributes

  • Is incredibly detail oriented with respect to creating and reviewing datasets
  • Understands the demands of a small highly paced team experiencing strong demands from the market for their current product
  • High agency, no patience for inaction
  • Has a strong want to contribute to a mission

Things we value in a teammate:

  • You have a high internal and external bar: you have a high bar for yourself when you perform, and you have a high bar for others around you
  • You are supportive—especially when teammates are faced with new challenges
  • You challenges yourself and others to grow
  • You put themselves in the shoes of our users to craft a great experience
  • You value clear, frequent communication (we do a lot of reading & writing)
  • You are naturally curious and willing to take a step to learn something they don’t have experience in
  • You strive to be collaborative, are willing to drop things to jump on a problem with a struggling teammate and enjoy working as a team
  • You feel a great sense of accountability to yourself and your team
  • You are resourceful, often thinking outside of the box
  • You uphold best practices in law, contract review and contract risk from the perspective of a prudent general contractor or sub contractor
  • You have a bias towards action (if you have a sense of urgency and like getting things done, this is a great place for you)

Things you would work on:

  • A cutting-edge vertical solution for the construction industry that will forever change how contractors are assessing risk in project documents
  • Ensuring that Provision’s identified risks and risk-related workflows best represent the actual needs of construction professionals
  • Optimizing product related KPIs in order to advance north star company metrics
  • Creating quick-turnaround solutions to test out new features with customers
  • Contributing to a document processing engine that turns hundreds of documents into an easier way for contractors to identify and mitigate construction risk

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $150,000 - $190,000 CAD
  • Equity Range: 0.75% - 1.0%
Technology

Our technical challenge is taking hundreds of different document formats, processing them automatically to create a coherent data representation and then building an application to make it easy to understand for construction users.

Our ML Document Processing pipeline is written in Python and we use pytorch, spacy, nltk, and pandas where appropriate. We primarily write code in Python, using the Django web framework and in Typescript for a react web application. We host on a hybrid cloud setup across GCP and AWS. We host all of our application data in Postgres.

Interview Process
  1. A phone screening to make sure we’re on the same page and to be respectful of your and our time. We’re interested in hearing why you’d like to join Provision at this stage and what your ambitions are (20 mins).
  2. A technical and behavioral interview with a member of the team you’ll be working on, we’ll also ask you questions about your work experience and past projects (60 mins)
  3. A reference check after we conclude the penultimate interview.
  4. A paid in-office work day where we work together on a technical assignment and get to know each other.
