Using generative AI to call insurance for healthcare clinics

About Health Harbor

Over a third of all healthcare costs stems from overhead in insurance billing. For the first time, we’re able to automate that away with AI. Health Harbor is using LLMs to fully automate calling insurance for doctors. Our mission is to simplify healthcare so doctors and their offices can spend less time figuring out logistics, and instead focus on the patients they care about.

We are looking for outstanding product-focused software engineers who are just as passionate about healthcare as we are. As an Engineer at Health Harbor, you'll have the chance to tackle difficult technical problems. From working on cutting edge generative AI to building a scalable system from the ground up, you’ll get to work on a fast moving project from day one. Also, as a foundational member of our early team, you'll be instrumental in shaping our company culture and long-term engineering practices.

About the role
Skills: Python, Google Cloud

Where we're at right now (Aug 2024)

  • Signed pilot agreements with customers worth up to 7 figures ARR.
  • Team of 4 looking to expand to 7 by Oct.
  • Serving hundreds of requests for clinics across the US every day
  • 3+ years of runway, planning to get to default alive very soon.

Our Current Priorities (Aug 2024)

Looking specifically for help in scaling backend technical system from hundreds of requests to tens of thousands per day. Specific projects over the next few months include:

  • Reducing E2E latency across multiple systems including retrieving cached audio from a GCP bucket instead of live-streaming audio
  • Optimizing distribution of requests across servers to minimize spikes in latency causing call/audio drops.
  • Debugging and analyzing prompts/fine-tuning to make sure our LLM voice agent gets the right information consistently.
  • Setting up a test/evaluation system for LLM-based processes to track and measure progress.

What we’re not looking for (sorry, it’s us, not you!):

  • Frontend-focused engineers — A vast majority of the work we do is optimizing call costs and performance. A small minority of our users actually use a frontend instead of our API.
  • Junior Engineers with < 3 YOE — With experience comes the ability to operate quickly and independently. You’ll be given many ambiguous problems to solve on your own.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary & Meaningful Equity
  • ICHRA benefit — choose whichever insurance you’d like! (Health/Vision/Dental Insurance)
  • Flexible PTO (Expect a min 10 days of PTO a year)
Interview Process

1. 45 minute coding interview -- Feel free to use your own IDE, copilot, google, anything you'd use normally when coding. The problem itself is likely similar to what you'd see on Leetcode.
2. 45 minute system design interview
3. 30 min call with Nathan, my cofounder
4. 3 day (compensated) project in our codebase so we can work together
5. Offer!
